Things to know about Mini Shimmyfest:

Can I perform in the show?

*Performing in the evening show at Mini Shimmyfest is first come, first served. Only 15 performance slots are open. They are open for solos, groups or duets of any dance level. Beginner to advanced. Only 15 spots are currently open as we are keeping the show short. After the show, we will have an open hafla for open dancing.

Can I just hang out until the space opens for the show?
*Doors will close at 4:30 pm as we transition from workshops to show. If you want to stay at the venue and wait for the show, please note that you may be asked to help transition the space. If you do not want to help, make sure to leave because I will ask. HA! HA!  If you do decide to stay and you are getting ready for the show, if you make a mess, please clean it up! (glitter, makeup, broken costume pieces)


How do we get music to you for performance?

*Sound system is CD only. Please have your music and a back up copy ready by noon as we will test sound during lunch! Songs can be no longer than 5 minutes. Performers in the evening show need to have their music to Lena by noon. Music needs to be labeled with your name/group name and have any special instructions with it. Please have your VERY SHORT bio turned in with your music. (please write it out in bullet points - keep it short and interesting)
 

Can I take my own photos & video?
*There will be no professional photos or video being taken of the show. If you want a recording of your performance, please ask a friend to help you with a video. Please keep the center aisle clear and don't interrupt other audience members. Please try to be discreet when taking photos or making a video recording.


What kind of seating will there be at the show?
*We can seat up to 300 people before the fire marshall tells us to get out of there. We have plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the event!

 

What about Covid?

*Covid. I personally don't have much to say on the subject. If you are comfortable being out and around others, please come out! If you have an immune problem, that will be between you and your doctor. You may choose to wear or not wear a mask. We are all adults and can make our own decisions. If anyone is rude about it in ANY aspect, I will ask them to leave. Again, this is going to be a personal choice for each individual.

Music at the show:

*The audience for the show is made up a very diverse crowd, please be mindful when choosing your music and costuming. We ask that you please avoid religious music that may offend a certain religious group and any type of curse words in the music or implied or blatant sexual movements/music. We want to keep the event family friendly. We appreciate your cooperation.

What kind of stage will be at the show?
*Stage area is on the floor level.

Will there be a hafla after the show?
*There will be open dancing/hafla after the show is over for approximately an hour. This is a great time to socialize, dance and get your selfie's done!

More information about the swap meet:
*Swap meet details: Class ends at 11:15 am and anyone interested in selling may set up anywhere in the main class room starting at 11:15 am. There are tables you can use.  You can bring a small clothes rack in addition to your table, as long as you don't hog a bunch of space. Keep in mind that there are others who may want to sell, too. Your items may be new or used. If you are a vendor that wants to vend during the lunch time you may do so but will need to have everything taken down and put away by 2 p.m. This applies to anyone who is selling. You can sell, barter, trade or give away - it is up to you! There is NO vending fee or commissions to pay to anyone. This is free to set up at. Please keep at least 75% of your stuff belly dance related whether it's costumes, fabric pieces, fabric trims, related clothing items or decor. If you have other items you think that may be useful to someone, please bring it. Example: organizers, baskets, clothing that is unique but maybe not completely belly dance related. Just use common sense please! We don't want this ending up being someone's personal yard sale. Just keep the majority of your items belly dance related! Thank you! 

We will have space for 2 vendors that would like to keep their tables open all day long to vend not just during the swap meet time. You'll be able to set up all day long and into the evening show. If you are interested in a vending spot, please message: lenareginasmith@gmail.com


How much is the swap meet?
*You don't have to pay for a workshop ticket or show ticket to attend the lunch time swap meet. Lunch time swap meet is from 11:15 am until 2:00 pm. I wanted to make sure everyone had plenty of time to set up, eat, shop and socialize. Please have your goods packed up and gone by 2 pm so our 2 pm class can start on-time. I will do my best to make a reminder announcement! If you are not a workshop participant, please make sure to leave the building by 2pm! The American Legion is located downtown Prairie Grove. It is nestled in between an entire Main street of flea markets. Trust me, there's a lot to explore! 

Information about the dance workshop space:
*The American Legion we are using is located in Prairie Grove. Prairie Grove is located approximately 15 minutes west of Fayetteville (from outer edge of MLK) The venue is large. There are several bathrooms and a kitchen area. We will have plenty of room for many dancers. The floor is a vinyl type of flooring. I would recommend dance shoes or slippers.

Want to dance in the show?

*The show will have a total of 15 spots. 2 spots are taken by instructors which leaves 13 spots open for ANYONE to snag up. It will be first come, first served. When you pay for your workshop ticket, you can e-mail Lena: lenareginasmith@gmail.com and let Lena know you would like a dance slot. I'll need your performance name and hometown/state. I am not taking any special requests for performance placements. You have a 5 minute limit on music. Solo, duet or group performances are welcomed. Beginners to advanced performers can sign up. Please keep performances within the belly dance genre. From cabaret to tribal to fusion, just please keep it related to dance! The show is family friendly so please keep that in mind when choosing music and costuming. There will be an open hafla for approximately 1 hour after the show. Please stay to dance, socialize and take selfie's. 

 

Workshops:  

*There are 4 workshops, 1 hour long by 4 different instructors. When the instructor is speaking and teaching, please let them speak and don't interrupt them. The instructors will be teaching classes based on things they know and want to share with you! You may know a different way of doing things but please respect the teacher by letting them teach. Don't undermine them by trying to take over the class and show others how you would do things. Please don't teach others, let the instructor handle questions, etc. I am stating this because it happens quite often.

What to wear to the workshops:
*Comfortable clothes are a must! The floor is concrete so keep this in mind when thinking about foot wear or being barefoot. This could change but at the moment it is concrete. We recommend dance shoes. We prefer no coin belts because the noise can be so annoying and loud BUT we aren't going to tell you not to wear them. If you have a coinless belt, it is much preferred!

*LUNCH TIME Buffet Info:
*This will be optional. I will be ordering pizza's from either Domino's or Jim's Razorback Pizza, TBD. I will have a pizza, salad, dessert and drink buffet for anyone that wants to eat at mini Shimmyfest. The buffet I set up will be $15 per person. Please let me know what type of pizza you are interested in and I will do my best to make sure we order one. There are no guarantees but I will do my best! If you are gluten-free, we can order gluten-free but it's quite a bit more for that specialty crust! I can order gluten-free, it's just a lot more money. P The gluten free will have to be a $5 upcharge. I'm unsure about vegan but I can order a cheeseless pizza with veggie toppings, please let me know. Not interested in a pizza buffet? Want to leave and go eat somewhere? I have listed out a few options in Prairie Grove. Fayetteville has a ton of options! I need to have at least 10 people commit to the pizza buffet in order to have it. I'll be taking pizza buffet reservations till 9 am on the day of the event.
